The color of the smoke coming out of your car’s exhaust can give you a lot of information about malfunctions in your car’s engine. In this article, we will look at what are the reasons for blue smoke coming from the exhaust.

You must have encountered it frequently in traffic. As soon as it presses the gas from the exhaust pipe of the vehicle in front of you, blue smoke comes out. There are many possible causes of this smoke. If you see blue smoke in your vehicle, you should find the cause immediately and go to the repair way.

What Does Blue Smoke Mean?

The blue smoke emanating from the exhaust after starting your car’s engine means that the oil mixes with the fuel in the combustion cycle and the oil is burned, and the oil and the rich mixture of smoke are expelled from the exhaust by not burning the fuel completely. This means that your vehicle is inefficient in operation and its causes need to be found and solved as soon as possible.

Reasons for Blue Smoke from Exhaust

1- Oil drips into the exhaust manifold

Many seals, especially the cylinder head gasket, prevent oil from leaking out of the engine. An oil that can leak from the engine can drip onto the hot exhaust line, causing blue smoke to appear. You may notice blue smoke from your car’s exhaust while accelerating or idling.

2- Oil Mixes with Fuel

Oil should not be mixed into the combustion chamber in the engine. However, when the engine cylinders wear out, it cannot provide this tightness. Oil leaks into the engine and burns with the fuel. Burnt oil means blue smoke.

3- Oil Drips on Hot Engine

The oil cap, oil control stick and oil filter where oil is placed on your car’s engine are the main places where oil can leak. The engine block is very hot when operating. Oil dripping onto the block will cause blue smoke to come out.

4- Bad Glow Plugs (For Diesel Engine Vehicles)

The principle of operation of diesel engines is different from gasoline vehicles. According to the working principle of diesel, fuel and air are compressed and heated in the engine. This heating is provided by a part called a glow plug. When the glow plugs wear out, combustion in the engine cannot be fully realized. Since diesel is the closest fuel to the oil, it will be sent to the exhaust without being fully burned. As a result, blue smoke is seen coming out of the exhaust.

Blue Smoke from Exhaust Problem Solution

If blue smoke is coming from the exhaust of your vehicle, you should find the cause of it in a short time and take care of it. The source of the problem can be a very simple felt, or it can be the case that a very costly engine is finished.
